Chapter 1

About this guide

#1.1Who this guide is for

This guide is written for two audiences, and most chapters serve both:

  • Developers who write SQL and PL/SQL, browse and modify schema objects, debug stored programs, and build automated tests.
  • Database administrators who monitor sessions, examine storage, run health checks, compare schemas, tune SQL, and script routine maintenance.

No prior experience with DBKraft For Oracle is assumed. Working knowledge of Oracle Database concepts (schemas, tablespaces, sessions, PL/SQL) is assumed.

#1.2Conventions used

ConventionMeaning
BoldA label you see on screen — a button, menu item, tab, or field name.
MonospaceSomething you type, a file path, an identifier, or SQL.
File → Preferences…A path through menus; each arrow is one level down.
Ctrl+KPress these keys together.
⚠️A warning: the action changes or destroys data, or affects other users.
💡A tip or a piece of context worth knowing.

#1.3How to use this guide

Read Part I once, end to end, before your first session. After that the guide is a reference — each module has its own chapter, and each chapter is self-contained. The keyboard shortcut table (chapter 37) and the troubleshooting chapter (42) are the two pages worth bookmarking.
